The split I am willing to print
Need for Speed II and the Special Edition are 1997 games. Multiplayer in the original is LAN, modem, serial, or split-screen, depending on the version. There is no EA lobby left to log into, because there was never a modern account server for this title. People saying “nfs2 online” usually want one of two things: a browser DOS build, which is single-player unless the site adds a virtual LAN, or a way to tunnel the old IPX or serial link to a friend. RetroOnline is the name that comes up for the virtual LAN idea. I do not have a second source that lists a public player count, so I am not printing one. If a page offers an APK or a “free full version” zip, that is not this guide. The legal path is a copy you already own, plus whatever networking the version actually implemented.
