The split I am willing to print
High Stakes, also called NFS 4 in some regions, is 1999. Multiplayer on the PC version was modem or serial for two players, and LAN or the internet of that era for up to eight. That is the original game’s own networking, not a 2026 matchmaking service. Nobody is operating an EA lobby for it. People still race it by reviving the old IPX or TCP link, sometimes through a tunnel program. I am not writing a tunnel tutorial, because the trustworthy part is simply: the feature existed, the official servers did not survive as a product, and a modern “free apk” is unrelated. Pair this page with the NFS II page if you are collecting the late-90s games. Hot Pursuit 2010 is not this game.

Questions
Is Need for Speed: High Stakes (NFS 4) still on official servers?
I do not have a sourced shutdown date, so I am not inventing one. Read the route list for what is actually documented.
Is a browser page the same as multiplayer?
No. Several browser builds are single-player. The route list says which ones claim real lobbies and how many sources back that claim.
Where do I get the game?
