The split I am willing to print
Need for Speed World was a free MMO, not a career mode with a tacked-on lobby. It went live on 27 Jul 2010. The studio side of the story closed in 2013, and the public shutdown reporting I am willing to cite puts the last day at 15 Jul 2015. EA is not operating World in 2026. Private servers exist; NightRiderz is the one with a public site, an email activation, and a Discord. I am not auditing their premium shop from the outside, and I am not telling you the private server is the official game. If a download asks you to turn off security tools before it will start, stop. The interesting question on this page is historical: the game is closed, and anything playable is a later community server with its own rules.

Questions
Is Need for Speed: World still on official servers?
The sourced shutdown date on this page is 2015-07-15. Anything still playable is a later project or a store copy’s own mode.
Is a browser page the same as multiplayer?
No. Several browser builds are single-player. The route list says which ones claim real lobbies and how many sources back that claim.
Where do I get the game?
Official client is no longer distributed by EA. Private servers require their own launcher/account and a legitimate game copy where applicable.
